How to Make a umu Or Samoan Bake Foods?
Back Home, We make food simple and unique, how we roast the pigs is similar to hawaiian style but the difference is we not only roast a pig but we also added our banana, taro, palusami and other great bake meals. We put in the whole family meal in the Umu or the Samoan Oven which is made from scratch. It's kind of difficult for the ladies to do it but for men, its really a mens job. While the women are getting other delicious meals ready, the mens make the umu, which is one of the best meals of the day for a samoan.

How to make samoan Oka or raw fish dish aka in hawaiian poke?
ReplyDeleteRaw fish...I would use Akule/Tuna/check first to make sure that the fish can be eaten raw.
Ingredients:
5 to 6 Lemon/Lime or aka Tipolo
2 or 3 cans of Coconut Milk
6 lbs fish or more depending on what you got...
1 teaspoon salt
Directions:
Cut fish into small square size.
Put fish in a large or medium bowl.
Cut Lemon/Lime in half and squeeze in bowl.
Make sure the seeds of the Lemon/Lime are clear from the bowl. And than pour in the coconut milk. You can also add veggies, cut cucumber and tomatoes to make it take even more better.
And that is a samoan traditional oka...enjoy.
